Fund Advisors

Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation provides development and professional services to funds located in communities across its geographic region. These include community-based funds, corporate giving funds and organizational funds.

And we serve individual donors and their families, by helping them establish charitable funds to benefit their communities and favorite causes.

Benefits of Partnering with Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation

Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation currently serves community, organizational and donor-advised funds throughout its region. Establishing a fund with the Community Foundation offers a number of benefits that balance local control with professional management services:

Nonprofit Status

Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, which enables its funds to receive tax-deductible contributions. The Community Foundation issues charitable receipts conforming to IRS standards.

Local Control

Locally selected Fund Advisory Committee members make the decisions about how fund charitable dollars are spent. The Community Foundation has a legal responsibility for all funds entrusted with it to ensure that funds are used consistent with provisions of IRC Section 501(c)(3) and in compliance with donor intent. A local foundation would have the same legal responsibilities.

Financial and Administrative Services

Funds have access to Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation’s financial and administrative services. The Community Foundation has the sole responsibility for all day-to-day financial activities, including recording contributions, making disbursements, cash management, preparing and filing IRS Form 990, obtaining an audit of its financial statements by an independent CPA firm and issuing the fund’s financial reports.

National Standards

Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation has received recognition for having organizational and financial practices that are in compliance with National Standards established by the Council on Foundations. This demonstrates the Community Foundation’s integrity and accountability to donors.

Contributions to Multiple Funds

Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation is helping to evolve giving habits to support causes and programs that will have greater impact upon the long-term sustainability of hometowns in our region. Our efforts are helping many donors to consider the multiple causes they can choose to support with their current and planned gifts.

Southeastern Illinois Community Foundations marketing materials are available to funds at minimal or no charge. Sample or customized media relations materials, donor letters and financial planner communications can all be provided. The Community Foundation maintains an extensive website, providing information to funds, potential donors and financial planners. The ability to accept online donations is also available.

The Community Foundation staff has expertise in community development, strategic planning, planned giving and the development of public-private partnerships. Community Foundation staff and governing board members are available to help funds get organized, provide guidance for strategic planning and advise on effective fundraising techniques.
