Mattoon Area CommunityWorks
DESCRIPTION
The Mattoon Area CommunityWorks Endowment is a fund of Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation. The fund is dedicated to grantmaking activities in Coles County that focus on the following areas:
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT -- To improve the economic health of the region so that residents earn sustainable, living wages and prosper
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CHILD CARE -- To increase collaboration among educators and other stakeholders working to identify and address early care and education issues and community needs.
LAND USE AND PROTECTION - To partner and collaborate on current projects related to the environment and land use in the region
The Mattoon Area CommunityWorks Endowment was established in 2005 as part of the Grand Victoria Foundation's statewide effort to grow local philanthropy. Because of their efforts and the generosity of local community members, our community has a permanent source of support that continues to grow in impact and assets.
To date the fund has given back over $50,000 to Coles County non-profits and currently has over $300,000 in total assets.
REQUIREMENTS
Eligibility
To be considered for a grant from the Mattoon Area CommunityWorks Endowment, organizations must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:
- Organization must be a public charity with tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Under certain circumstances, applications from public entities such as school districts, municipalities or unincorporated groups or associations may be considered. Please contact our program staff for more information. In all cases, the applicant organization/program must have a clear charitable purpose.
- Organization must operate or serve individuals within Coles County;
- Grant requests must fit within the three areas of focus (early child care and education, workforce development and land use).
How to Apply - LETTER OF INQUIRY
Letters of Inquiry (LOI) will be accepted year-round from eligible organizations seeking funds within the three areas of focus. LOIs will be reviewed quarterly by the Mattoon Area CommunityWorks Grants Committee (March, June, September and December) and organizations that are selected to submit a full grant proposal will be contacted.
The majority of Mattoon Area CommunityWorks Grants are less than $10,000, with the average grant being between $2,500 and $7,500. The volume of grant requests usually exceeds the number of requests we are able to fund. Therefore, not all organizations that are eligible will receive funding, or at the level of funding requested.
