Nonprofit Capacity Building Microgrant
Grants provide a maximum of $1,500 for attendance by nonprofit staff and board members at training and professional development programs of their own choosing. Micro-grants are strategic investments used to defray the cost of training and development opportunities targeted at improving the management, board participation, governance, fundraising and leadership of the applicant organization. Applications will be ranked using the following criteria:

Strength of proposal for capacity building training - 40%
Projected improvement in board participation - 25%
Expected increase in fundraising capacity - 25%
Reasonableness of proposed budget - 10%
Micro-grants are awarded to organizations providing service in Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Effingham, Jasper and Shelby counties.
The 2019 application submission deadline is October 15, 2018. Awards will be announced by the end of November 2018, BUT grant money will not be sent until late January 2019. All grant activities must take place during 2019.
Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation is a nonprofit corporation that is a tax-exempt public charity pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation manages permanent and non-permanent assets for the long-term benefit of Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Effingham, Jasper and Shelby counties in Illinois.
Requirements
To be considered for a grant from the Nonprofit Capacity Building Micro-grant Program, organizations must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:
1. The location(s) where you are located or provide services must be in Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Effingham, Jasper or Shelby counties.
3. Your organization must pay no less than 20% of the total cost of the program request.
4. Micro-grants will only support FUTURE opportunities between January 1 and December 31, 2019, not training or professional development that has already occurred.
5. Organizations that received a micro-grant in 2018 are asked not to apply for 2019 funding. Those organizations may apply again in 2020.
6. Preference will be given to organizations with an annual budget of less than $1 million dollars.
7. Organizations must be a public charity with tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Under certain circumstances, applications from public entities such as school districts, municipalities or unincorporated groups or associations may be considered. In all cases, the applicant organization must have a clear charitable purpose. Please contact our program staff if you have questions regarding eligibility.
8. Grants will NOT be made for program activities.

Applying for a Micro-grant:
1. Identify a training opportunity that meets the specific development needs of your organization.
2. Complete the application no later than October 15, 2018.
Maximum grant is $1,500. The volume of grant requests usually exceeds the number of requests we are able to fund. Therefore, not all organizations that are eligible will receive funding, or at the level of funding requested.
