Community Foundation adds new members to Mattoon advisory board

The Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation board of directors recently appointed Clay Dean and Mike Sullivan to three year terms on the Mattoon Area Community Foundation Advisory Board.

is the CEO of First Mid Insurance Group and Senior Vice President of First Mid-Illinois Bancshares, Inc. He has worked in banking finance and investment services throughout his career, having moved back to Mattoon in 2010 after 10 years in New York and Connecticut. Mr. Dean graduated from Mattoon High School in 1992 and traces his roots in Coles County back at least five generations. He attended the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora, Illinois and holds a BA from the University of Illinois, and a MA from Yale University. He has been active in Mattoon Kiwanis, Mattoon Arts Council and currently also serves on the board of the Mattoon Public Library.

Mike Sullivan retired from the telecommunications field after working for Consolidated Communications for 18 years and Verizon Wireless for 10 years. He currently works for Illinois Eastern Community Colleges as the Director of the Manufacturing project and the Small Business Development Outreach Center in Mattoon. He served on the Lake Land College Board for over 27 years and is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Mike has lived and worked in the Mattoon area for most of his life. He graduated from Mattoon High School, Lake Land College and the University of Illinois.

According to Tami Knight, chair of the regional community foundation, “We are pleased to have Clay and Michael join the Mattoon Board Advisory Board. The knowledge they have about the needs of Mattoon and the surrounding area will be a great asset to the local foundation.” Mattoon Area Community Foundation manages 21 different funds totaling over $2.4 million in assets for the benefit of charitable programs and organizations in the area.
